Shibam Mediterranean Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into Shibam Mediterranean Restaurant on Kenmore Avenue is like being gently ushered into a space where warmth and tradition settle in alongside you. The pace here is unhurried, inviting you to linger over meals that feel crafted with both care and history. The atmosphere balances a quiet intimacy with a subtle buzz—tables filled with hearty conversations and the gentle clink of shared dishes evoke the feeling of dining in a welcoming home rather than a typical restaurant.
What draws you into Shibam isn’t just the food, but the comforting rituals surrounding it. The seating thoughtfully offers a blend of familiar American-style tables alongside spaces inspired by Middle Eastern traditions, hinting at the cultural tapestry that the kitchen invites you to explore. A soft focus on genuine hospitality is palpable in the attentive presence of the staff, making each visit feel quietly special.
The flavors that emerge from the kitchen speak to a Yemeni heritage rich with slow-cooked lamb, fragrant spices, and dishes like mandi and haneeth that unfold with comforting depth. Meals arrive as shared experiences, where tender meats, perfectly seasoned rice, and subtly layered stews invite conversation and connection. Even the simpler offerings, like the hearty fava beans at breakfast or the delicate sweetness of baklava for dessert, echo genuine care and tradition.
Shibam does more than serve food—it creates moments of discovery, where every bite holds a story and the atmosphere holds a space for belonging. Amid the busy hum, diners often find themselves returning not just for the generous portions or authentic tastes, but for the sense of place that quietly anchors the restaurant to its community. It’s a spot where coming back feels like coming home, over and over again.

I Absolutely love this place! The food is full of authentic Arabic flavor and cooked with real care. My favourite dish is Zubaidi fish. It's always perfectly cooked. Their lamb is also very good and delicious! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff are kind and attentive. Highly recommended for anyone who loves delicious Middle Eastern food!

The restaurant itself very clean. It has a section for American style seating along with traditional middle eastern style. Which I enjoyed seeing. The tables had the plastic covering which I used Google to translate: bismillah- give god thanks for your food. I really loved that! The restaurant was busy. Most of people looked at me as if I was out of place. They were not rude. The awkward stairing made me a bit uncomfortable. I ordered the lamb stew and rice. Which were full of flavor. Seemed very fresh. The lamb stew was cut into mini (super small) pieces same size as peppers. It was more of a pepper stew. Too many peppers not enough meat. Overall impression was good but I don’t think I’ll be back for seconds.

Incredible food - very generous portions, especially for the price, but it's the quality that has brought me back. I could happily live on the bread. The fahsah is the platonic ideal of a stew, but I haven't found a bad thing on the menu.

People may come to see Niagara Falls, but we come here for this mind-blowing restaurant! The meat is so fresh, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was prancing around in a field just yesterday. The Mandi meat is not just fresh, it’s also perfectly seasoned and slow-cooked until it’s so tender it practically melts in your mouth. And the rice! It’s like they cracked the code to perfect Arab rice – fluffy, flavorful, and always spot-on. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with Arabic songs like Fairuz in the morning and the legendary Yemeni singer Abu Baker Salem adding to the authentic experience. The staff is always ready with a smile and a helping hand to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable dining experience. Don't step foot in this restaurant unless you are prepared to make multiple visits again, because one time just won't be enough.

MashAllah excellent food Quick service, clean environment, very reasonable price, generous amount of food. The cook is super nice, he comes out personally to ask about dishes (be a bit patient as his English isn’t the best but he will not disappoint with his fantastic food). Their mandi is amazing, highly recommend!

The food is made fresh, every dish we tried has been an amazing experience. Their Mandi is our favorite, as every dish has a serving for about 4 people. The prices are cheap for such huge quantities. They also give soup and salad as sides with every order. Hands down the best Yemeni place in upstate! The owner may have difficulties communicating as English is not his first language, but he’s been super hospitable and kind.
